NEW YORK – The defending champion New York Knicks continue to bolster their roster for the new season, announcing the signing of former No. 2 pick center James Wiseman, championship guard Bruce Brown, and wing Ochai Agbaji to non-guaranteed “Exhibit 9” training camp contracts. These veterans will compete for the final spot on the opening-night roster during preseason training camp.

Constrained by salary cap limitations, the Knicks have opted for a low-risk, high-reward approach to add depth. The “Exhibit 9” deals are non-guaranteed training camp contracts, allowing the team to evaluate players during the preseason while providing an out if a player suffers a significant injury, without impacting the salary cap.

In addition to the three players above, the Knicks recently signed big man Drew Eubanks and shooter John Konchar. Given the Knicks’ current roster plans, only one of these five experienced players is expected to secure a spot, setting the stage for an intensely competitive battle for a roster position in the upcoming training camp.

The most intriguing name in this batch of signings is the injury-plagued Wiseman. The No. 2 pick of the 2020 draft has been plagued by knee injuries since entering the league and suffered a severe Achilles tendon injury early last season. Now returning to the court, he is desperate to prove himself within the defending champions’ system. If he can display the potential that once made him a highly touted prospect, he could provide a vital boost to the Knicks’ frontcourt bench.
